Sohyun Kim

Project Designer

In September 2021, as I neared the end of my studies at NCSU, I joined the vibrant community at New City Design Group as an intern. These early days fostered my passion for architecture, shaping the course of my professional trajectory.

Today, as a Project Designer at NCDG, my journey continues. I immerse myself in assisting the team by developing design of project and providing visual explanations. This aids the client’s understanding, allowing them to virtually explore the project’s materials and proceed with confidence, playing a vital role in the creation of architectural masterpieces.

Among the numerous endeavors, the Woodburn II project holds a distinct place. NCDG’s hallmark lies in our adeptness at seamless client communication, aligning with local trends to invigorate the city’s development. Dynamic team sessions transformed conceptual ideas into concrete designs. The exploration of intricate building conditions and structural complexities catalyzed my personal evolution as both a designer and visionary.

Beyond the realms of architecture, I seek solace and inspiration in the joys of life. Camping in the great outdoors, exploring new vistas through travel, and indulging in the art of handcrafting are my chosen avenues for rejuvenation. These activities not only refresh me but also infuse novel perspectives into my creative approach.

In essence, my story is an intricate tapestry woven with education, creativity, and community engagement. From intern to Architectural Project Designer, each phase adds depth and color to my narrative. As I eagerly embrace the path ahead, I anticipate a journey of continued growth and discovery.

Lee has practiced Architecture in Asheville, NC and Raleigh NC, gaining much experience in adaptive reuse and historic preservation projects. His experience ranges from liturgical, retail, institutional, educational, restaurant, and medical projects over the past 30 years of practice. He is a hoarder with a keen interest in federal period American furniture, clocks, and vintage Lionel toy trains.
