New City Design Group Featured in Raleigh Magazine for Ridgewood Shopping Center Transformation
We’re thrilled to share that New City Design Group has been featured in the April 2025 issue of Raleigh Magazine for our work on the revitalization of the iconic Ridgewood Shopping Center. This recognition not only celebrates the architectural vision behind the project, but also underscores our continued commitment to enhancing Raleigh’s evolving urban landscape.
Located just off Wade Avenue, Ridgewood Shopping Center has been a staple in the Raleigh community since the 1950s. Known for its local charm and loyal customer base, the center was due for a refresh that could honor its mid-century roots while positioning it for long-term success in a rapidly growing city. The renovation was a collaborative effort to breathe new life into this beloved destination — and New City Design Group was proud to lead the design vision behind that transformation.
Our approach focused on maintaining the center’s nostalgic character while introducing thoughtful design upgrades to improve functionality, accessibility, and overall aesthetics. This included façade updates with a modern yet timeless material palette, refreshed storefronts, enhanced landscaping, improved pedestrian walkways, and exterior lighting that complements the center’s warm, community-oriented atmosphere.
One of the standout features of the renovation was creating a stronger sense of place — a walkable, welcoming environment where locals can gather, dine, and shop. These improvements were designed not just for today’s tenants and visitors, but to serve the community for decades to come.
