Fall 2023 Newsletter

Hello Friends,
It’s been a productive and fun year at New City Design Group – 2023 has flown by! We have some great projects getting ready to open – these reflect the hard work of our clients, partners, consultants, and team members.

Here are a few highlights:

North State Bank

The new North State Bank building on Blue Ridge Road is nearing completion. This iconic 30,000 square foot addition to the buzzing Blue Ridge Corridor will begin serving the public on November 9.

New City is proud to call North State Bank a client. Their commitment to quality and their positive contribution to the community is unmatched! Great work by JD Beam, Inc. on a first class buildout.

Rogers Building

Rogers West | East is in the final stretches! This 55,000 square foot mixed-use building is fully leased, with completion expected in Spring 2024. The project is far enough along to provide a great sense of its contribution to the fabric of Downtown Cary’s Chatham Street.

Another first class effort by Chatham Street Commercial, as they continue to invest in the Downtown Cary Renaissance.

Taco Bamba has come to Raleigh!

Chef Victor Albisu and his team selected Raleigh’s Ridgewood Shopping Center and New City Design Group as partners for the first Taco Bamba in the Carolinas. Taco Bamba is a hot concept from the DC/Northern Virginia market, featuring creative taco recipes, mezcal aplenty, and a fun, casual atmosphere. The covered deck at the Ridgewood location is a special treat for dining, sipping, and hanging out.

Terrific effort by August Construction and Regency Centers in delivering this little jewel for West Raleigh taco lovers.

Oak Village Academy

Oak Village Academies are unique, campus-style childcare and preschool centers. Their Cary location was voted Best Preschool 2023 by Cary Magazine’s reader’s poll. A second location in Holly Springs is currently under construction. In addition to the Oak Village multi-building layout, a cozy courtyard offers outdoor learning activities. The 7,000 square foot facility in Holly Springs is scheduled for a Spring 2024 opening.

Thanks to Zablud Development for making New City Design Group a proud part of the Oak Village team!

SAAP Lao Thai Restaurant

Lon Bounsanga, famed chef of Raleigh’s Bida Manda and Brewery Bhavana, is soon opening his own restaurant, Saap, on the ground floor of The Walker Apartments, next door to Downtown Cary Park and the Cary Regional Library. Serving signature Laotian cuisine, Saap (the Laotian word for delicious!) will consist of 70 indoor seats in 2,600 square feet, with outdoor seating to come.

Here’s to an exciting future for Saap, Chef Bounsanga, and Walker Walnut Hospitality!

Team News

New City welcomes Colin Gabbett and Sohyun Kim as Architects in Training. Sohyun and Colin participated in our summer intern program in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Both have earned Master of Architecture degrees from NC State’s College of Design, and are now full time team members, working on a variety of projects and assignments. We are proud to have them as part of the New City Design Group team.

That’s a wrap for now, folks!  Enjoy our beautiful fall weather, and let New City Design Group be the first to wish you a very happy holiday season!

Until Next Time!
